The temazcal is the prehispanic version of a sweat lodge. We heat volcanic rocks over which we place our medicinal herbs soaked in water to create steam within the temazcal structure. These herbs are aromatic bronchodilators that help cleanse your respiratory system and detoxify your body. At the end of the ceremony we perform a light herbal bath to wipe away the sweat from your body.

There are different types of Temazcal throughout Mexico. Some are more social experiences shared by larger groups, some are ceremonial, focusing on the ritualistic roots of the practice. These are also known as the Temazcal de Cuatro Puertas. Our Temazcal practice is of the therapeutic kind, a more private experience, focused on maximizing the effects of the medicinal herbs used and finding a deeper point of relaxation.

After the ceremony we will guide you to our massage room to rest while your body temperature regulates, then we will provide you with a hot tea to rehydrate and recuperate.
